About

Led by classical guitarist Petar Jankovic, the ensemble also features the string quartet of violinists Maria Storm and Azusa Tashiro, violist Amanda Grimm and cellist Kyra Saltman.

Their repertoire ranges from traditional Spanish works by Albeniz and De Falla to classical jewels by Shostakovich and Debussy to passionate Piazzola tangos and rich Brazilian music forms of Gnatalli and Bellinati.

Jankovic, who began studying guitar at the age of 8 in his native Yugoslavia, is a visiting lecturer of music at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. After many years of touring the world largely as a solo performer, he initiated the ensemble, combining his Spanish and Latin American influences with the string quartet’s European musical traditions.

Storm, a concertmaster of Composers Orchestra of Chicago, made her solo debut at age 14 with the Odessa Symphony Orchestra in Ukraine. While living in Europe, she established herself as an active soloist and chamber musician, performing with the Torun Chamber Orchestra and Rubinstein Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Tashiro, a native of Japan, began playing violin at the age of 4. She is the principal second violinist of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and has performed with various ensembles, such as the New Millennium Orchestra Chicago, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago (for which she was appointed as a concertmaster).

Grimm, the associate principal viola of Orchestra Iowa, has performed as a soloist, recitalist and concertmaster in the United States and abroad. Making her concerto debut at age 15 with the Parma Symphony Orchestra, Grimm also has soloed with the Baldwin Wallace Youth Orchestra, the Blue Lake European Orchestra, the Carnegie Mellon Baroque Ensemble and the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic.

Saltman, the principal cellist of the Chicago Composers Orchestra, has performed with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, Aspen Opera Theater Orchestra, the Illinois Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, Wisconsin Philharmonic and the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago, as well as numerous festivals.
