Artist Music Series Concert: Isthmus Brass Quintet with Percussion

Sunday Feb 15 @ 3:00 PM

Artist Music Series

The Wisconsin-based performers, who are part of the larger Isthmus Brass group, include trumpet players Dave Cooper and Don Sipe, trombonist Mark Hetzler, horn player Ricardo Almeida, tuba player Mike Forbes and drummer Keith Lienert.

Cooper and Lienert are professors at UW-Platteville, while Sipe teaches at Carroll College and Hetzler instructs at UW-Madison. Almeida performs with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, as does Cooper. Forbes is the principal tuba of the La Crosse Symphony and also performs with Sotto Voce Quartet.

The concert will be divided into halves. The first half will feature light classical music, some by composers like Bach, as well as a few original works by Forbes, who composes about 90 percent of the group’s arrangements.

The second half of the concert will be a world tour of popular styles, ranging from Latin tangos to Dixieland jazz to a South African-style tribute to the late Nelson Mandela.
